An opening ceremony for the very first Olympic Dog Games hosted by the NH Dog Walking Club is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The event will help raise funds for the club’s charitable partnership program, which supports Mary’s Dogs, Hero Pups and Live and Let Live Farm.

The games lineup includes physical and mental challenges that allow owners to test their dog’s abilities by August 16.

The Olympic Games for Dogs include diving on the docks, catching bubbles, chasing balls, and consuming ice cream.

People can see the full schedule here. Events are planned in Concord, Dover, Epping, Lee, Milton, New Boston, Newington and Somersworth.

Traci Bisson is an expert in sustainable pet care and the owner and founder of It Takes a Village Pet Care, NH Dog Walking Club and My Petcare Community. In 2020, Bisson was named Northeast Credit Union Protector of the Planet along with two other women, according to her website.

The club is a for-profit company that works with charitable partners. Membership is open four times a year for 10 days.

Club members take their dogs on hikes, to Long Sands Beach in York, Maine and to the Halloween event in Dover, NH, hosted by Delise West. She owns Sit.Stay.Smile. Pet photography.

There is a growing movement for dogs in New Hampshire.

Bisson hopes to serve the entire state by the end of 2022, and the Fox Run Mall in Newington allows dogs to be indoors now.

Bisson and West were at a “Yappy Hour” at the mall in May where the official announcement to allow dogs inside was made.

Individual stores have a sticker on their windows if dogs are allowed inside, or dog owners can request.
